Purchasing the Right Doctoral Robe

Doctoral robes are the most important part when it comes to the ceremony. They are the biggest part of your academic regalia, and are what everyone sees when the look at you. You want to get the best robe without spending a very large amount of money. This money should be put towards other aspects in your school-related life, but not spent on something that you shouldn’t be spending money on. There are many problems that universities are having, because people wear the wrong doctoral robe when they graduate. It is always important to wear the correct robe. There are a few options that you must keep in mind when purchasing these robes. You must buy the correct robe or else you may be looked down upon, or even laughed at. When you buy your doctoral robe, it always depends on what you are obtaining your degree in. Most of the time your school will let you know what kind of robe you are supposed to be wearing, but sometimes they may not, so you will have to go and ask them so you know. If you do not ask them, you will most certainly buy the wrong robe, and be wearing a robe that signifies that you are getting your degree in something you have no interest in! Thus, it is recognized that following suggestions don’t answer all the pertinent questions about any of the specific ceremony.

Academic Commencement Ceremony

This custom is, in a few respects, the substitute for an individual hooding.
Gowns. At the ceremonies where the degrees are been conferred, it is suitable for a candidate wearing the graduation gown to keep with their degree to get received. Hoods. If the person holds more than 1 academic degree, then he or she might wear just one hood at one time. Hood that is worn must be appropriate to your gown. Traditional rule is the candidate for the degree must not wear hood of that particular degree unless it is in fact conferred and this rule applies to one who are individually hooded during commencement ceremony; and they must not wear these hoods in preliminary academic procession. But, when the degrees are being conferred en masse, without any individual hooding, groups involved, for example, the master's degree candidates at the large universities, might wear the hoods in preliminary procession & throughout your ceremony. Lots of institutions have dispensed totally with the bachelors' hoods and it is appropriate for bachelor's gown being worn without any hood.

General Information About Academic Procession

There is a wide range in the customs about the academic processions. In a few institutions, chief marshal is led by the macebearer, and in others procession. Any of them can be followed by the color guard. (On a few occasions colors are been displayed on stage as well as are not moved during ceremony.) At a few institutions there are many more divisions in procession that are indicated below, for example, church dignitaries.
